2016 Walk Across Tennessee program announced for Rhea County

UT/TSU Extension Rhea County offers a great program called Walk Across Tennessee. It is an 8 week walking program where a team of 4-6 can walk individually or as a team and record their miles. I would like to encourage you to for a team and see how many miles you can walk.

Dates for Walk Across Tennessee are March 7- May 1.  Registration Deadline:  Thursday, March 3.

How do I get started?

  • Go to friends, family and co-workers and form your team
  • Pick a team captain. The team captain’s job is to encourage everyone to walk and to turn in their walking
  • Get started walking

How can I get my walking miles?

You can ride a bike, walk on a treadmill, walk around the school or place of employment and go to the park.  You can just about get your walking miles in any way you choose. If you do not have a pedometer already, I encourage you to get one. Have a fitbit or another recording device, challenge friends and team members. Are you a runner?  No problem. Include your miles.  Having a pedometer, fitbit or another recording device is the best way to keep up with your daily steps.

Why should I get involved?

You should get involved because it is fun and self-rewarding. You will feel better, more relaxed, have more energy, lower blood pressure and much more. It is a great way to challenge and energize your friends, family and co-workers.
